What is Scalp Micropigmentation?
The SMP Industry emerged from a desire to expand permanent makeup treatments and create solutions for a very common problem: Balding & Thinning Hair.
Scalp Micro or SMP as it is commonly known is the process of applying micro dots by tattooing to simulate the appearance of natural hair follicles.
We offer the Scalp Doctors micropigmentation course which consists of approximately 48 hours of initial study of the technique, including practical and clinical assignments..
Permanent makeup and tattooing are not entirely the same, although they do both provide long lasting results. Permanent makeup will require additional touchups over time, typically 3-5 years. The touch ups help keep the art looking robust and vibrant. A tattoo is typically much longer lasting, often a lifetime.
How Is Micropigmentation Different Than Tattooing?
Tattooing typically utilizes tattoo ink. Micropigmentation uses pigment. Tattoo ink and pigments vary in composition in ways that effect how they can be applied and how long they will last. A typically pigment will last between 3-5 years do to the bodies ability to metabolize the pigment over time. Tattooing uses ink and ink will not metabolize due to the larger molecular size of ink.
How Does This Impact SMP?
Your clients want a natural looking treatment that enhances their lives and looks. Tattoo ink is too harsh and long lasting to use on the head. Permablend created a wonderful line of Scalp Micropigmentation pigments. Tattoo ink will look too harsh and due to the carbon that can sometimes be found in tattoo ink, there is a risk of blow out of the SMP follicle simulation sites if the ink spreads.
